Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican authorities plan to introduce, from next April or May, a monthly flight from South Africa to Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and Vilankulo airports.

The plan was revealed this Monday by the commercial administrator of Mozambique Airports, Saíde Júnior, in a meeting he held with Mozambicans who work at the Doornkop mine in South Africa’s Gauteng province.

Junior said the plan aims to respond to the concerns of miners, especially from Mozambique’s Gaza and Inhambane provinces, wishing to visit their families in their areas of origin.

The implementation of the initiative will however depend on the results of the current campaign, called Operation Easter, Junior explained.

While the introduction of the proposed monthly flight is being studied, Junior added, options will be found for Mozambican miners from Inhambane, who say that using Chongoene (Filipe Nyusi) airport is not convenient.

For the upcoming Easter period, the government will introduce at least two flights to facilitate the miners’ journeys to and from South Africa.
