Africa-Press – Mozambique. At least 2,222 kilometres of rural roads in the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia will be rehabilitated over the next four years under the Promote Transport Programme launched by President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, in the city of Angoche on Saturday.
Among other benefits, the €124 million investment financed by the European Union (EU) aims to support the commercialisation of fishery and agricultural products.
Public tenders for the selection of the supervisor of the works, as well as the contractors who will carry them out, are expected to be launched next month, with the actual road works, which could extend until 2025, possibly slated for as early as October this year.
The fact of their being the two most populous provinces in the country, as well as having high fishing, agricultural and tourism potential, played a role in the choice of Nampula and Zambézia provinces.
It is hoped that the programme will solve logistical problems facing production in remote districts with enviable agricultural and fishing potential.
