Africa-Press – Mozambique. The ban on the import of poultry products from South Africa has been lifted, the neighbouring country having not recorded new episodes of avian influenza (AI) recently.
Mozambique has not had any cases of bird flu for more than six months, either.
Products that can now be imported from South Africa include producer chicks, day-old chicks and ducks, hatching eggs and frozen poultry meat.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Livestock Development, an entity under the umbrella of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER), requires that products come from birds kept in compartments free from avian influenza and approved by veterinary authorities in accordance with the World Food Organization code.
The transit through South Africa of poultry meat, plumes and feathers, fertile and consumer eggs and other products used for animal feed or agricultural or industrial purposes from other countries must however be authorised by the Mozambican veterinary authority, with the issuance of a respective import licence.
