Africa-PressMozambique. President Filipe Nyusi announced in Nampula this morning that he will address the nation in the context of the Covid-19 situation at 7.30 p.m. this evening from Pemba, in Cabo Delgado, when he will update the decree on the Situation of Public Calamity.

“Allow me this noble opportunity to welcome the presence and the commitment ofthee friendly forces whihct,by your side, are successfully combating the global scourge of terrorism. I also applaud your firmness in combating and preventing the COVID-19 pandemic (…). On the subject of Covid-19, I will, at 7:30 p.m., from Pemba, once again update the Council of Ministers decree that defines the necessary measures,” President Nyusi said.

Filipe Nyusi was speaking in Nampula, where, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), he received the greetings of the Superior Command of the FADM at the Military Academy Marechal Samora Moisés Machel, on the occasion of Mozambican Defence Armed Forces Day. The president also inaugurated a swimming pool for training cadets at the Academy and visited the institution’s modernised library.

At the time of President Nyusi’s last address on the Covid-19 situation, on 27 August, the country had an 18% positivity rate and 15% bed occupancy.

Mozambique currently has a positivity rate of 16.8%, a cumulative total of 1,906 Covid-19 deaths, 149,911 confirmed cases, 146,090 recoveries and 2,280 active cases of the disease.
