Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Thursday reported no deaths from the Covid-19 respiratory disease for the third consecutive day.
The total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique thus remains 1,919.
According to a Ministry of Health Thursday press release, since the start of the pandemic 913,863 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,532 of them in the previous 24 hours.
1,507 of the tests yielded negative results, while 25 people tested positive for the coronavirus. This brought the number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 150,899. Of the new cases identified on Thursday, 13 were men and 12 were women.
In not one of the 11 provinces did the number of positive cases reported reach double figures. There were six cases in Cabo Delgado, six in Niassa, three in Maputo city, three in Nampula, two each in Zambezia, Inhambane and Gaza and one in Tete. No cases were reported from Manica, Sofala or Maputo province.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Thursday was 1.6 per cent. The rates over the previous few days were 3.1 per cent on Wednesday, 3.7 per cent on Tuesday, 0.7 per cent on Monday, and 1.3 per cent on Sunday.
Broken down by provinces, the highest positivity rates were in the north – 8.7 per cent in Niassa and 2.6 per cent in Cabo Delgado. In Maputo city, the positivity rate was only 0.5 per cent.
Over the same 24 hour period, two Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital, both in Zambezia, and two new cases were admitted, one in Maputo and one in Nampula.
The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment centres rose from 21 on Wednesday to 23 on Thursday. Seven of these patients were in Nampula, six in Niassa, six in Maputo, two in Inhambane and two in Gaza. No Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in any of the other six provinces.
The Ministry release also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 200 people have been declared fully recovered from Covid-19 (136 in Cabo Delgado, 51 in Nampula and 13 in Inhambane). The total number of recoveries now stands at 147,847, or 98 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active Covid-19 cases fell from 1,304 on Wednesday to 1,129 on Thursday.
