Africa-Press – Mozambique. Liverpool F.C. midfielder Alexis Mac Allister struck deep into stoppage time to hand his side a dramatic 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest F.C. in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
In a match that lacked spark for much of the 90 minutes, Liverpool struggled to break down a disciplined Forest side and rarely tested the home defence.
The visitors’ attacking plans were disrupted before kick-off when Florian Wirtz picked up an injury during the warm-up and was replaced by Curtis Jones.
Forest, playing their first league game under new manager Vítor Pereira, created the clearer opportunities early on.
Callum Hudson-Odoi forced a solid save from Alisson Becker, while Elliot Anderson squandered promising openings.
Liverpool’s most notable contribution in regular time came through Mohamed Salah, whose intelligent movement and link-up play kept the visitors in contention.
In the 54th minute, Salah rose to head a deep cross back into the danger area for Jones, but Forest goalkeeper Stefan Ortega reacted quickly to block the effort.
Salah remained Liverpool’s liveliest outlet, constantly probing and drawing defenders, even as clear-cut chances proved scarce.
The breakthrough appeared to arrive in the second minute of stoppage time when Mac Allister bundled the ball into the net, only for VAR to rule it out after the ball struck his elbow.
Undeterred, the Argentine midfielder responded moments later. In the 97th minute, he reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box and fired home the decisive strike to snatch all three points.
The victory lifts Liverpool to sixth place on 45 points, level with Chelsea F.C. and Manchester United F.C. in the race for European qualification.
Forest remain 17th on 27 points, hovering just two points above the relegation zone.
