Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities announced on Wednesday that over two million people have now been fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 respiratory disease.
According to a Ministry of Health Wednesday press release, over the previous 24 hours 183,338 people were vaccinated. The province with the highest number of vaccinations was Nampula in the north (41,582), while the lowest was recorded in Maputo city (5,259).
The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease is now 2,046,781, while 2,734,512 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Since the start of the pandemic, 937,377 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,081 of them in the previous 24 hours. 1,071 of these tests yielded negative results, while ten people tested positive for the coronavirus. This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 151,253.
Seven of the new cases identified on Wednesday are men and three are women. There were no children among them. Five of the new cases were from Maputo city, two from Nampula, two from Niassa and one from Cabo Delgado. No positive cases were reported from any of the other seven provinces.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Wednesday was 0.9 per cent. This compares with 1.7 per cent on Tuesday, 0.2 per cent on Monday, and 0.6 per cent on Sunday.
Over the same 24 hour period, two Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital (one in Maputo and one in Manica), and two new cases were admitted (one in Tete and one in Nampula).
The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment facilities remained unchanged at eight. Four of these patients were in Maputo city, with one each in Niassa, Nampula, Zambezia and Tete. No Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in the other six provinces.
The Ministry release also reported that on Wednesday 15 people, all of them in Maputo city, were declared to have made a complete recovery from Covid-19. The total number of recoveries now stands at 148,994, or 98.5 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique,
The number of active Covid-19 cases fell slightly, from 331 on Tuesday to 326 on Wednesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Nampula, 182; Cabo Delgado, 69; Maputo city, 24; Niassa, 11; Zambezia, 11; Inhambane, nine; Maputo province, eight; Manica, six; Gaza, four, and Sofala, two. Tete remained the only province with no active Covid-19 cases.
The Health Ministry reported no Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday. Thus the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remains 1,929.
