Africa-Press – Mozambique. To stimulate increased production and productivity, promote local transformation of raw materials and create qualified jobs, Governor of Sofala, Lourenço Ferreira Bulha, this Tuesday (22-04) inaugurated a rice processing unit in Mafambisse administrative post, Dondo district.
For the Sofala government, this unit now in operation represents a “concrete step in promoting the processing of raw materials at the place of production, adding value to rice cultivation and reducing dependence on external markets for the processing of the grain”.
According to Txopela newspaper, the new processing plant will be able to absorb rice production from the central region, boosting inter-provincial trade and fostering a new agro-industrial hub in the Beira corridor.
The focus on agricultural mechanization and technical assistance is part of a broader approach to stimulating national production in the face of the challenges posed by climate change, fluctuations in global markets and the need to revitalize Mozambique’s rural economy.
Lourenço Bulha also delivered several agricultural inputs to producers in the districts of Chemba, Caia, Maringué, Marromeu, Cheringoma, Muanza, Gorongosa, Beira, Dondo, Nhamatanda and Búzi.
The governor announced that the inputs will reinforce the productive capacity for around 3,024 families in the current campaign, with the delivery of four tractors and respective agricultural implements, namely, disc ploughs, disc harrows, furrowers, seeders and trailers; three rice harvesters; two hay production kits for animal supplementation; a specialized kit for sowing and harvesting reno potatoes; four cereal and legume seeders; one motor pump; and 278.5 kg of various vegetables seeds.
Also at the ceremony, Lourenço Bulha delivered 25 tons of reno potato seeds; seven tons of common bean seeds; 17 tons of fertilizers; 242 litres of pesticides; 107 units of various instruments such as personal protective equipment, hand trowels, hoes, machetes, watering cans, sprayers and rakes, the result of the partnership between the Sofala Provincial Executive Council and the Zambezi Valley Agency.
