Africa-Press – Mozambique. Unknown assailants on Friday murdered a Portuguese businessman, Jose Pedro Silva, in the southern Mozambican municipality of Matola.
Silva was the executive director of the company Sotubos, and the son of the company’s owner.
According to Maputo provincial police spokesperson, Claudio Ngulele, Silva was monitoring and collecting money from outlying branches of the company when the attack occurred at about 13.00.
The assailants used their vehicle, a black BMW, to block Silva’s car and then opened fire through the window. The only other people in the car were Silva’s driver and a bodyguard.
Silva was shot in the chest. The driver headed for the nearest hospital, but Silva was dead on arrival.
The police suspect that the shooting was a robbery gone wrong. There were also claims that the gang had intended to kidnap Silva – but kidnap gangs do not kill their victims.
