Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s government will set up a multidisciplinary commission to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) in the country, the planning and development minister has announced, acknowledging significant challenges in accessing this technology.
“The digital divide remains a significant challenge, especially in Mozambique, where a large part of the population still does not have access to basic technology and the internet. This digital exclusion leaves many disconnected from the opportunities that digital transformation can offer,” said Minister Salim Valá during the 12th edition of the “MOZTECH” technology fair, which has been taking place for three days in Maputo.
The minister explained that the government intends to introduce this technology in an “effective” manner so that it serves as a bridge “for the creation of new business opportunities,” which also involves the use of AI.
“We believe that the regulation of Artificial Intelligence in Mozambique should not inhibit the advancement of innovation in this area, and we will establish a national commission on Artificial Intelligence, a multisectoral and multidisciplinary platform,” he explained.
According to Valá, the commission will enable the participation of key stakeholders in these technologies, support the AI regulation process, and promote its adoption in some services in the country.
