Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to boost bilateral cooperation and respond to the current challenges both countries are facing.
The visit by the Portuguese President comes in the wake of Wednesday’s celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s independence.
At the end of the meeting Chapo said “We have historic relations of friendship and cooperation, of fraternity, as well as ties of language between Mozambique and Portugal. For us it is a privilege, a great honour, to receive the Portuguese President, and particularly at a special moment, which is the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s independence”.
Chapo added that the meeting served to make a positive assessment of bilateral relations and envisage new areas of cooperation. He claimed there is a common commitment to economic growth and the creation of better living conditions.
“Our bet is on Mozambique’s economic growth and development, and countries are like people, nobody grows alone, nobody develops alone. We made a very positive assessment of our relations of friendship and cooperation at the moment”, he said.
For his part, the Portuguese President said that both Portugal and Mozambique are going through a new historical cycle, characterized by a generational transition and challenges that require joint responses, adding that this new chapter is already being built in partnership between the two countries.
