Africa-Press – Mozambique. Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Inhassoro, Inhambane province, have restored to freedom the 15 Mozambican citizens who were held there on suspicion of belonging to the terrorist group operating in Cabo Delgado province. The individuals were detained for inquiries on Tuesday and were released on Thursday.
According to Carta sources, the group was in the coastal area of Inhassoro district on a service mission, after a fishing company owned by a Chinese citizen moved from Cabo Delgado to Inhambane province because of the terrorist attacks in that part of the country.
After the intensification of terrorist attacks in the province of Cabo Delgado, the authorities began blocking fishing activity in the northern region of the province, which led to the Chinese-owned company setting up in the coastal area of Inhambane. Lobster is the main product marketed by this firm.
Carta sources stress that the 15 men were detained by the authorities because this was the first time that fishermen from Cabo Delgado province had been noted in Inhambane province.
The authorities remain silent on this issue. ‘Carta’ attempted to speak to the PRM and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Inhambane, but without success.
