Africa-Press – Mozambique. The large ship anchored for several days at Xai-Xai beach in Gaza province was in Mozambican waters for safety reasons due to the bad weather conditions.
This was confirmed on Saturday by Pelágio Duvane, the delegate of the National Institute of Maritime Transport (INTRASMAR) in Gaza, after four hours of investigations on the high seas.
Two vessels mobilized for the verification operation reached the ship and clarified the situation. According to authorities, the vessel from Singapore was bound for Malta carrying wind turbines, a cargo considered sensitive and not to be exposed to rough seas.
The Navy was also involved in the investigation and gave assurances that the vessel posed no threat to national security. After an inspection, it was confirmed that it was legally authorized and not carrying hazardous materials.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, as there were communication difficulties with the crew. The crew sent an email to the Port of Maputo requesting permission to dock, but received no response, prompting the intervention of naval forces.
The vessel has 21 crew members on board and, according to available information, left the waters of Xai-Xai in the early hours of this Sunday.
