Africa-Press – Mozambique. Residents of the Mucojo Administrative post, in Macomia district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, on Thursday faced moments of panic, following a terrorist incursion.
According to sources cited in Monday’s issue of the independent neswsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the terrorists attacked Pangane village, where they looted goods and extorted money from the local population.
Local sources reported that when the terrorists arrived in the village, they purchased foodstuffs from the shopkeepers. They then placed a cloth on the ground and forced the villagers to leave money.
“They didn’t attack anyone, but they bought food and, before leaving, using a speedboat, they put a handkerchief on the ground so that each person would leave a contribution of money for the mission they say they are leading”, a source said.
Another villager explained that the terrorists consider Mucojo to be part of their territory. “Between Thursday and Friday they were in Pangane”, he said, “but they didn’t stay long. That same night, they demanded money from the population and left the village”.
After the Pangane raid, the terrorists moved towards the south of the province. As a result, villages in the districts of Quissanga and Ancuabe have also been experiencing moments of panic
