Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) yesterday arrested a 48-year-old Nigerian man with 89.8 kilograms of a white powdery substance, which is presumed to be methamphetamine, in the Malhangalene neighbourhood of Maputo city.

According to Daniel Macuácua, PRM spokesperson in Maputo, the arrest is part of the “Charuto” operational plan, which aims to dismantle the drug supply and consumption chain in the country.

Macuácua explained that the detainee was returning from South Africa and that the drugs may have originated from that country.

He added that the individual has a criminal record and that efforts are underway to locate others involved.

The detainee said the drugs belonged to a friend and that he merely helped package the substance in one-kilogram plastic bags.
