Africa-Press – Mozambique. Police authorities in Zambézia province announced the seizure of 25 interprovincial passenger and cargo transportation licenses suspected of being forged.

The information was provided by the spokesperson for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Zambézia, Belarmina Henriques, during a presentation of the weekly activity report.

According to Henriques, the documents were seized in the districts of Alto-Molócuè, Mocuba, Nicoadala, Namacurra, and Gilé. The licences raised suspicions because they displayed the signature of the provincial director of Transportation in a digitized format, as well as a forged ‘white seal’ [‘selo branco’].

“We are facing strong evidence of forgery. The signature was scanned and the seal is fake, so these licenses were immediately removed from circulation,” Henriques explained.

Although no arrests have been made so far, police reported that the carriers involved were prevented from continuing their journey.

Joint investigations with other entities are already underway to determine the origin of the documents.

Henriques added that this is the first reported case of this type this year, but admitted the possibility that the scheme has been in place for some time, as some of the licenses in the authorities’ possession are dated from previous years.
