Africa-Press – Mozambique. A group of Islamist terrorists on Tuesday killed two people in Mapate village, Muidumbe district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.

According to sources cited in Thursday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the victims were found in their homes, after being unable to flee into the bush or to the neighbouring village of Mandava, as others did earlier when they became aware of the terrorists’ presence.

“The situation is not good. First, they went through the farms, and then we learned that the terrorists entered Mapate, where they killed two people. Other people fled to the village of Mandava. In Mapate, they also caused further damage”, a source said.

As a result of the insecurity, other villages near Mapate also panicked and the population took refuge in hiding places “and on Tuesday, some activities were temporarily suspended.”

The paper’s sources explained that in Muambula village, many households were forced to spend Monday night away from home.

“People slept in the bush, leaving Muambula village. They were forced to flee due to the situation. On Tuesday morning, other terrorists were sighted in low-lying areas on their way to Litandacua village in Macomia district”, said another source.

They also said that the terrorists’ movements were reported in Palma district, where Mozambican and Rwandan forces are operating on the ground.
