Africa-Press – Mozambique. This week, military personnel from the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) took part in a lecture organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), focused on the theme “Human Trafficking in the Context of Armed Conflict.”
The session was an opportunity to raise awareness and provide training on one of the most serious human rights violations globally. During the lecture, the characteristics and dynamics of human trafficking were explored, distinguishing it from migrant smuggling. The discussion also addressed the causes, methods used by perpetrators, and the profiles of the victims, with a particular focus on women and children.
The talk highlighted the heightened risks in contexts of humanitarian crisis and armed conflict, where institutional breakdown and population vulnerability create fertile ground for the expansion of transnational criminal networks. Early identification, prevention and appropriate response measures were also discussed, based on international best practices.
Participation in this type of initiative reflects the comprehensive and informed approach of the European mission on the ground, which invests in the holistic and ethical training of military personnel, aligned with the values of the European Union and the operational challenges of the Mozambican context.
EUMAM MOZ remains committed to operating in line with International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
