Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican President on Saturday invited Algerian businesspeople to invest in gas refining in Mozambique, noting that the country is becoming one of the “major producers” of this resource both in Africa and the world.
“Mozambique is becoming one of the largest natural gas producers in Africa and the world. We are seeking partnerships in gas refining, petrochemicals, and gas utilization for industrialization. We currently have five projects [for exploiting this resource],” Daniel Chapo told a meeting with Algerian businesspeople on the last day of his visit to that country, which began on Wednesday.
Chapo said he was in Algeria to discuss “concrete business opportunities”, extolling Mozambique as a “gateway” to Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean.
“Our goal is to build solid and mutually beneficial business partnerships in line with the African vision of integration within the framework of the continental free trade area (…). We are open to welcoming Algerian businesspeople, our brothers, who wish to invest and grow with us in Mozambique,” the Head of State added.
The Mozambican President highlighted the five existing natural gas exploration projects in the country, four of which are underway in the north of the country and include “one of the largest gas discoveries in the world”.
“We would like to conduct these service provision deals for these megaprojects with our Algerian brothers. Because of the trust we have, they also already have quite advanced knowledge, and this will allow us to grow together,” the President said.
The President of Mozambique told the Algerian businesspeople that the country has gas exploration projects in Inhambane, in the south of the country, and in the north, with, among others, the Italian company Eni, the French company TotalEnergies, and the American company ExxonMobil involved.
In addition to the hydrocarbons sector, Daniel Chapo also invited Algerian businesspeople to invest in the energy and pharmaceutical industries, noting that Mozambique sees Algeria as the “only benchmark” in Africa in the pharmaceutical sector.
Daniel Chapo held a four-day working visit to Algeria from Wednesday to Saturday, aiming to deepen bilateral relations between the two states, according to a statement from the Presidency.
“During his stay, President Daniel Chapo was to reaffirm Mozambique’s commitment to continental economic integration and the strengthening of strategic partnerships in the areas of trade and investment,” the Presidency note added.
