Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican saxophonist, composer and cultural ambassador Moreira Chonguiça will bring his electrifying sound to the Windhoek Jazz Festival 2025, which takes place this Saturday, 1 November, at the iconic Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia.
Recognised for his distinctive fusion of contemporary jazz, Afro-soul and traditional Mozambican rhythms, Moreira Chonguiça is celebrated as one of Africa’s most innovative and dynamic musical voices. His performances – a powerful blend of technical mastery, emotional depth and cultural storytelling – have captivated audiences worldwide, from UNESCO’s International Jazz Day in Tangier (Morocco) to the stages of major festivals in Europe, Africa and the Americas.
This year’s Windhoek Jazz Festival promises to be one of the most memorable editions ever, with a line-up of artists from across the continent. Sharing the stage with Moreira Chonguiça will be the legendary South African hit-maker Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, vocalist Kelly Khumalo, the acclaimed singer Zamajobe and the celebrated Sereetsi & the Natives from Botswana. The programme also includes Henry Philemon (South Africa) and a vibrant showcase of Namibian talent, including Bongani Soul, Sigera Jazz, Swingers Jazz Band, Ugly Creatures, Esme Songbird, Botselo and The Harmonic Grooves.
“I feel honoured and excited to be part of this iconic festival. The Windhoek audience has incredible energy, and jazz is the perfect language for us to connect, celebrate, and share stories across cultures. I am looking forward to bringing a performance that speaks from the heart – a show that celebrates the beauty, rhythm, and resilience of our continent,” Chonguiça says.
The festival organisers say that the 2025 edition builds on the event’s reputation as one of the premier live music experiences in Southern Africa.
