Africa-Press – Mozambique. Seven men were arrested in Ngangue, Chókwè district, Gaza province, for possession of ivory from four elephants poached in Magude, Maputo province. Among those arrested by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Ngangue, two have been identified as PRM agents.
The arrest followed an operation by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), in coordination with the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC).
Seven ivory tips, two firearms, ammunition, a vehicle, and mobile phones were seized during the operation. The detainees, aged between 30 and 60, had intended to sell the ivory but were intercepted before the transaction.
One of the suspects denied to the press that he was a PRM agent, while the others remained silent. SERNIC reported that investigations continue to locate another suspect who remains at large.
