Africa-Press – Mozambique. President Daniel Chapo will hold talks with the US Under Secretary of War for Policy, Elbridge A. Colby, in Washington, D.C., this Tuesday.

The agenda for the meeting has not been made public.

Later today, the head of state was scheduled to meet the Chief Executive Officer of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and with the Mozambican community residing in the United States.

For Maria Manuela Lucas, Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Chapo’s meetings with senior US officials symbolize an important milestone in his administration, considering that he has been President of Mozambique for less than a year.

“I believe we all understand that it’s not that easy to meet with a Vice President of the United States, even with Secretaries of State, and President Chapo has achieved that in his roughly nine months in office,” she said.

The anticipation surrounding the head of state’s visit is heightened, especially since it comes at a time when the country is suffering from a financial shortage resulting from the US government cutting funding for development initiatives, a situation not unique to Mozambique.
