Africa-Press – Mozambique. The logistics subsidiary of the state-owned Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) has acquired two pilot boats to strengthen maritime support operations for the oil and gas sector and expand its capacity to respond to demand, it was announced today.

With these acquisitions, CFM Logistics now has seven vessels in its fleet. In a statement, the company said the newly acquired vessels are positioned at the Port of Nacala, in Nampula province, northern Mozambique, to reinforce operational readiness at one of the country’s main logistics hubs.

According to the company, the vessels are 13.40 metres in length, have a top speed of up to 20 knots and an approximate range of 300 nautical miles. They are equipped with twin engines, modern navigation systems and high safety standards, enabling greater efficiency and reduced waiting times in port and maritime operations.

The company said the two boats will increase its capacity to respond to service demand and keep pace with the growth in vessel traffic, particularly in the context of oil and gas project activity.

“The acquisition of these vessels significantly strengthens our operational capacity. We now have seven vessels operating in the ports of Nacala and Pemba and in Afungi, allowing us to provide a more efficient service and respond to the challenges posed by the industry’s growth,” the statement said, quoting the company’s management.

The company clarified that the acquisition forms part of an investment package estimated at around US$15 million in floating assets for 2026. The subsidiary intends to invest in the modernisation and expansion of its fleet and to consolidate its presence in the logistics value chain of the energy sector.

CFM Logistics specialises in integrated logistics services, with operations in the maritime sector and in support of energy and industrial projects. It operates in the ports of Nacala, Pemba and Afungi, with an expanding fleet and a strategic vision focused on the sustainable growth of national logistics, according to the company’s statement.

The company began operations in July 2024 to support companies in the exploration and production phases of oil and gas, onshore and offshore, at the Port of Nacala, in Nampula province, as reported at the time by Lusa. This involved the acquisition of two tugboats and two pilot boats.

According to board member Agostinho Langa Júnior, the public company found in CFM Logistics “the response to the Government’s guidance for participation and involvement in the oil and gas industry” as a “relevant player”: “By capitalising on what we do best, which is logistics and port handling. We did so after assessment, interaction and dialogue with partners, clients and other stakeholders in the sector.”
