Africa-Press – Mozambique. The process of renewing the national coach Chiquinho Conde’s contract with the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) is ongoing, and the “dossier” could be concluded next month, potentially extending the contract for a further two years. A source within the FMF revealed that there are intentions for the next contract to run until 2028, with the likelihood of salary improvements for the coach, as well as for his staff.
The coach was formally informed by the FMF of its intention to begin contract renewal negotiations via a letter dated 5 February, five days after the expiry of his previous contract with the national football governing body.
The last communication in the ongoing process took place last Friday, when the FMF notified the coach of the receipt of his counterproposal, stating in the letter that it would be carefully analysed and that a response would be provided in due course.
By signing a new commitment to coach the “Mambas”, Chiquinho Conde will remain national coach for an additional two years, starting from the date of signing. This means that, if both parties agree, Conde will continue to lead the “Mambas” until the conclusion of the CAN 2028 tournament, but especially until the month in which the new agreement is formally signed.
With this new contract, it will be Chiquinho Conde’s fourth tenure with the “Mambas”. The first time the former national team captain led the side was in 2010 for a single friendly match against Portugal, just before the World Cup in South Africa. He returned around 11 years later, in October 2021, for a contract lasting until 30 June 2024, which included an addendum. From there, he signed another contract that expired on 31 January this year.
