A Russian cargo aircraft has delivered approximately 29 tonnes of humanitarian supplies to Mozambique, aimed at assisting communities affected by floods. Africa-Press – Mozambique. A Russian cargo aircraft touched down at Maputo International Airport on Thursday morning, carrying around 29 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, Notícias reported.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, this was “a special flight of Russia’s EMERCOM (i. e. , Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters) to the Republic of Mozambique.”
“By decision of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, following instructions from the Government of Russia and on the orders of EMERCOM Head Alexander Kurenkov, around 29 tonnes of humanitarian cargo were transported from Moscow,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry statement specified that “an Il-76 aircraft delivered food, essential supplies, as well as tents and blankets for flood-affected communities in Mozambique.”
According to Notícias, the delivery ceremony in Maputo would be witnessed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Mozambican Community Abroad, Maria Manso, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the National Disaster Risk Management Institute (INGD), and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Mozambique.
