Africa-Press – Mozambique. The 50 winners of the “Agora Emprega” program, promoted in the city and province of Maputo, have been announced. The Secretary of State for Youth and Employment (SEJE) handed over 1.5 million meticais to finance each of the business ideas selected.

This initiative of the State Secretariat for Youth and Employment aims to support young people in transforming their ideas into businesses. In all, 50 young people out of a total of 350 were awarded. The winners were formally presented in Maputo this Monday by Secretary of State for Youth and Employment Oswaldo Petersburgo.

“Entrepreneurship, as a way of transforming ideas into real products and services, by reducing costs, making processes more flexible, increasing efficiency and improving people’s living conditions, must be used by youth as their weapon in the process of developing the country,” Petersburgo said at the event.

After a two-month training course, those ideas with the greatest potential for income and employment generation were selected. The initiative was financed by the World Bank, which aims to contribute to self-employment and poverty reduction.

“The Emprega Program is an excellent opportunity to empower young people in Mozambique.

We encourage young people to believe in themselves and generate ideas for progress,” World Bank representative Emme Ozaltin said. “Agora Emprega” is expected to cover other provinces over the next year.

Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, Rolinho Farnela, Deputy Minister of Public Works, Cecília Chamutota, and partners were present at the event.
