Africa-Press – Mozambique. The government of Cuamba district, in Niassa province, is forcibly relocating 650 families who live in areas prone to flooding and urban inundation.

These are families living in the neighbourhoods of Mutxora, 3 de Fevereiro, Adine 1, 2 and 3, and along the banks of the Namutímbua and Muandá rivers. For this purpose, the district government, in partnership with the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) and the Municipal Council, has already demarcated 600 plots in the resettlement neighbourhoods of Injato and Tetereane.

The Administrator of Coimbra District, Jacob Matumba, said that the flooding situation is alarming due to the intense and intermittent rainfall recorded in recent days in that part of Niassa Province.
