Africa-Press – Mozambique. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates that around 3.4 million children require humanitarian assistance in Mozambique, highlighting the need for an additional $35.6 million (€31.1 million) in funding.

A report by the UN agency, states that the crisis in Mozambique results from armed insecurity in the north of the country and the cholera outbreak that mainly affects the province of Nampula.

“The security situation in the north remains volatile, with several incidents reported in Cabo Delgado and Niassa forcing children and families out of their homes,” the document stated.

According to UNICEF, by May, health workers had vaccinated around 2.3 million people against cholera in the country, and they had screened 357,500 children for malnutrition; of whom almost 12,600 received “life-saving treatment”.

During the same period, the UN agency reports that it provided drinking water to 116,900 children and families, 149,500 children and caregivers received psychosocial support, and 173,300 children had access to education.

“UNICEF HAC Appeal{Humanitarian Action for Children Appeal] 2025 has a funding gap of USD 35.6 million,” the organisation said.

The United Nations Children’s Fund warns that, with funding shortages, At least two million children need “ critical vaccination”, 572,800 children and families require safe drinking water, 335,500 people need psychosocial support, and “children with severe acute malnutrition will not survive without the treatment they need”.
