Absa Bank Mozambique holds training session for journalists

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Absa Bank Mozambique on Tuesday (30-11) held a seminar for journalists on the interpretation and understanding of financial data from the sector, so as to ensure a better understanding of the matter and, consequently, more focused and incisive reporting.

The seminar addressed various matters related to the financial system, the operating context of banking, international financial reporting standards, the main financial instruments, financial inclusion, and the impact of publications in the national press, among other aspects.

For the Director of Customer Service, Tania Simões, “the promotion and training of national journalism will contribute to a richer exercise in the journalistic agenda, providing tools that support the exercise of the profession in a universal, objective, impartial manner and in favour of building the knowledge, values that Absa Bank has been incorporating into its operations”.

“For the bank, it is extremely important to have journalists trained in terms of interpreting financial sector reports and accounts, as it will allow evaluating the evolution and growth of the national bank,” she added.

In November, 2020, Absa promoted, in partnership with Rhodes University in South Africa, a training seminar for journalists called a “Masterclass in Data Journalism”, which aimed to enhance the capacity of journalists to prepare reports on financial matters, as part of a series that it intends to continue, as evidenced by this latest addition.
