Africa-Press – Mozambique. More than 3.2 million people in Mozambique are in a situation of acute food insecurity.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Technical Secretariat for Food and Nutrition Security, the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Zambézia have the highest rate of food insecurity.
Leonor Neves explained that the impact of the last rainy and cyclonic season could even worsen projections for the present year.
Neves was talking to Radio Mozambique on the occasion of World Food Safety Day, observed annually on June 7.
Leonor Neves said that food kits and agricultural inputs are currently being allocated across the country, with a view to strengthening food security in communities.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, through the Technical Secretariat for Food and Nutrition Security, recently released the 2022 Post-Harvest Food Security Report.
According to the study, only 38% of the country’s more than 30 million inhabitants manage to meet their minimum food needs.
