Africa-Press – Mozambique. Aeroportos de Moçambique (ADM) will attempt to make air freight transport more competitive by re-evaluating the rates charged and ensuring the certification of all terminals.
At the moment, two fees are charged – for cargo, at 10 cents per kilogram, and for airport security, which varies from one airport to another, and also depends on whether goods are for export or imported.
“For example, in South Africa and other countries in the region, they charge by volume and not by kilogram. The idea is for Mozambique to align with regional practices. We are working with the business community to see if we can lower rates,” said Saíde Júnior, financial administrator of ADM.
Speaking recently at FACIM-2023, he explained that, within the scope of the Economic Acceleration Programme, some fees were no longer charged at Chimoio, Lichinga and Pemba airports, to encourage the export of products from those provinces.
Júnior argued that, to promote competitiveness, it was also necessary to create incentives and encourage producers to transport cargo by air.
