Africa-Press – Mozambique. Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo (AdRMM) warns of a possible reduction in water supply in the city of Maputo, Notícias reports.
“This alert occurs as a result of the current worsening of the hydrological situation, generating an increase of water discharges in the Umbelúzi river, the main source of supply to the Water Treatment Station (ETA) of AdRMM”, reads the communique, quoted by Notícias.
AdRMM advises consumers to use water prudently, “so as to make the necessary reserves, in face of this water supply reduction eventuality”.
The southern region of the country, in particular the Greater Maputo Metropolitan Area, is still under intense rain, which has already caused deaths and several material damages, including public infrastructure.
The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM), forecasts the occurrence of heavy rains (more than 50 millimetres in 24 hours), locally very heavy (more than 100 millimetres in 24 hours) accompanied by thunderstorms and winds with gusts this Saturday and Sunday.
