Africa-Press – Mozambique. Altona Rare Earths Plc said its Monte Muambe rare earths project in Mozambique re-opened at the start of this week and the new drilling season will begin “on or around 15 July”.
This will include initial pre-feasibility study in-fill drilling activities carried out by Spartan Drilling Services for the third consecutive season.
Cedric Simonet, chief executive of London-listed Altona, said the company’s immediate areas of focus are its mineral resource estimation (MRE) and scoping study, with “considerable attention” to be given to the metallurgy as this is “a key parameter” for carbonatite hosted rare earth elements projects.
He added: “The 2023 drilling campaign will specifically aim at expanding the high-grade orebodies in order to increase the resource base.”
The company also shares some recent assay results, including one core sample with 3.45% concentrations of total rare earths at first measurement and 3.52% in the second measurement, with 0.45% NdPrO (neodymium and praseodymium oxides).
