Africa-Press – Mozambique. MOZAMBICAN President Daniel Chapo has revealed that one of the key agreements reached with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, is the enhancement of air transport through cooperation between the national airlines of both countries, aiming to provide services in major cities across Tanzania and Mozambique.
Air Tanzania Corporation Limited (ATCL) is a Tanzanian national carrier while Mozambique is served by Linhas Aereas de Mozambique (LAM).
Speaking to journalists today, May 8, 2025, at the State House in Dar es Salaam after official talks, President Chapo stated that they discussed the launch of direct flights between Mozambique and various cities in Tanzania, as well as the improvement of air travel services between Maputo and Pemba in Mozambique.
President Chapo also noted that, beyond air transport, both countries have agreed to collaborate in the emerging Blue Economy sector. He mentioned that his visit to Tanzania is partly to learn how the country implements this philosophy, which involves the sustainable use of marine resources for economic development.
In other areas, President Chapo expressed satisfaction with the agreements between Mozambique and Tanzania to cooperate in the mining and energy sectors, highlighting that Mozambique has recently discovered vast mineral wealth that can be developed for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Regarding neighborly relations, President Chapo said they agreed to establish regular meetings between leaders of the border regions to strengthen cooperation and maintain peace among communities in those areas.
He also described his visit to Tanzania as historic, emphasizing that it serves to honor Tanzania’s significant role in Mozambique’s liberation struggle. He stressed that Mozambique’s ruling party, FRELIMO, will never forget how Tanzania supported their fight for independence.
