Africa-Press – Mozambique. This week, a coordination meeting took place between the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ), representatives of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM), Points of Contact (POCs) for the Mobile Training Teams (MTT), and a representative of the Austrian Armed Forces (AT AF) Logistics School acting on behalf of the Mobile Advisory and Training Team (MATT).

The presence of the AT AF representative, Colonel Jürgen Marschnig, marked further progress in the implementation of a MATT, which will operate in close coordination with EUMAM MOZ’s Training and Mentoring Branch (J7).

The team will focus on delivering specialised training to the FADM in the field of ammunition management, covering the full ammunition life cycle, safe storage standards, packaging, and stockpile management. This is a critical area for operational safety and for the consolidation of standardised technical procedures.

The meeting also allowed the finalisation of preparations for the launch of the Theoretical Basic Ammunition Course (TBAC), which will constitute the first structured step of this specialised training programme.

Within the framework of this cooperation, the Austrian Armed Forces are providing a “Train-the-Trainers” programme with a minimum duration of three years, focusing on small arms and light weapons as well as conventional ammunition.

The objective is clear: to develop qualified trainers within the FADM, ensuring that, in the medium term, training in this field can be conducted autonomously, sustainably, and in line with international best practices.

EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026. It focuses on the operational training cycle and sustainment, while also delivering specialised training to enable the FADM to become self-sufficient in countering the insurgency in Cabo Delgado. The Mission brings together military personnel from 12 contributing nations, including one from Austria.
