Africa-Press – Mozambique. The customs authorities in central Mozambique announced on Monday, in the city of Beira, that they had stopped an attempt to illegally export about 171 tonnes of sesame to China.
“The provincial customs services of Mozambique stopped an attempt at the weekend to export about 171 tonnes of sesame in six containers,” Dionisio Lambo, director of the Provincial Customs Services of Mozambique told the media.
According to the source, the seizure of sesame occurred at the port of Beira, when a national exporter tried to use or submit an irregular documentation, in breach of customs law.
“The exporter submitted the export request with the services and our inspection team went to the location. Upon arrival at the location, work was done and it really was sesame, but upon submission of the process in the Single Window we noticed that some documentation was not in order. So we aborted the export”, he stated.
In this case, apart from the problems with the documentation, there were, in the same process, problems with the invoices.
“He presented invoices with different consignees,” noted Lambo, adding that there is a process that is now being handled by the Sofala Province Customs Court.
