Africa-Press – Mozambique. Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, on Friday (19-01) visited the Gemrock ruby mining company in the district of Ancuabe, where he expressed satisfaction with the good relations between employer and workforce.

Governor Tauabo’s visit was aimed at better understanding the organisation and operation of the mining company, which has been extracting rubies in Ancuabe district for two years.

In a presentation, the governor learned that the unit processes 100 tons of ore per hour and has the capacity to process 1,500 to 2,000 tons per day.

Governor Tauabo urged Gemrock to prioritise local labour in admissions, encouraging it similarly to pursue social responsibility actions prioritising those that impact the lives of communities closest to the project.

In conversation with workers, Tauabo learned that the workforce genuinely “feels part of” the enterprise.

The Gemrock ruby mining project is located 170 kilometres from Pemba, and employs 250 workers, of whom 180 are Mozambicans, the majority from Cabo Delgado.
