CAF Approves Welfare Package for Referees Ahead of AFCON

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved an extensive welfare package for referees and assistant referees who will officiate at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), underscoring the body’s commitment to professionalism and high officiating standards at the continent’s premier football tournament.

Under the approved arrangement, all match officials selected for the competition will be entitled to economy-class air travel to and from the tournament venue.

CAF will also fully cater for their accommodation throughout the duration of their official assignments, ensuring a comfortable and secure stay for referees and assistant referees during the competition.

In addition to travel and lodging, match officials will receive a daily allowance of 200 US dollars for a maximum period of 20 days.

The allowance is in line with CAF’s operational and financial framework for the tournament and is designed to cover daily expenses while officials are on duty.

CAF said the welfare package is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving the working conditions of referees and enhancing the overall quality of officiating at AFCON.

The football governing body believes that providing adequate welfare and logistical support will enable match officials to remain focused, motivated, and physically prepared to handle the demands of the tournament.

The decision reflects CAF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen refereeing standards across Africa and to ensure that officials at AFCON operate in an environment that promotes fairness, efficiency, and professionalism throughout the competition.
