Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan on Monday signed an agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in various sectors of development.

According to Chapo, the first agreement between Mozambique and the Aga Khan Foundation was established in 1998, resulting in the full presence of the Aga Khan Network in the country. “To mark these historic moments, we have decided to sign a new agreement today. It is very important for our country and our people, because we have clear evidence of various development projects that have been carried out over these 25 years”, he said.

In Mozambique, the Aga Khan network supports development projects in health, education, infrastructure and rural development.

“This agreement is aimed at strengthening the historical ties that unite Mozambique and the Ismaili community, to establish and consolidate partnerships in areas of common interest with particular emphasis on education. I personally had the privilege of visiting the Aga Khan academy in Matola city, which is impressive for training leaders of the future. We met children there who came from Syria, Iran and so many other countries where there are conflicts at the moment,” he said.

The government is interested in maintaining cooperation in the areas of health, culture, and environmental protection due to climate change, which is seen as a global challenge.
