The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, issued separate Presidential Decrees to honour national citizens and legal entities, in recognition of their exceptional acts of courage, sacrifice, personal and institutional commitment to the Mozambican nation, as well as to promoting the values of peace, socio-political inclusion and citizenship.
A press release sent to AIM yesterday states that the Head of State decided to award honorary titles in the exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution.
The awards are as follows:
“Order of Samora Moisés Machel, 1st Degree” to
Fernando Erverard do Rosário Vaz.
“Order of 25 June, 1st Degree” to
Carlos Machili, posthumously, and
“Order of 4 October” to
Cardinal Dom Alexandre José Maria dos Santos, posthumously.
“Bagamoyo Medal”
Alberto Jeremias Manjate;
Ana Maria Nhampule;
Arlindo Francisco Hoguane;
Eugênio Dique Mandlate; and
Horácio Agostinho Cossa.
“Veteran of the Mozambican Liberation Struggle Medal” to
1,100 national citizens.
In recognition of their active participation in the Mozambican Homeland Liberation Struggle, on the front lines of the armed or clandestine struggle, as well as in the selfless effort aimed at promoting the achievements of national independence, Mozambican identity and national development.
“Nachingwea Medal”
Calista Jesus Terezinha Francisca Luís da Silva; and
Polana Caniço General Hospital
In recognition of extraordinary merits shown in the defence and promotion of human rights, women’s and children’s rights, in the dissemination of educational information to the population, in the fight against natural disasters, in the fight against epidemics, such as COVID-19, and in the fight against poverty.
“Academic Merit Medal”
Brazao Mazula;
José Mário Joaquim Magode;
Maomede Naguib Omar; and
Maria Perpétua Gonçalves
The four receive the medal in recognition of extraordinary merits, selfless work and consent to sacrifices in the transmission of relevant knowledge and dedication to the education of younger generations.
According to the Head of State, the Academic Merit medalists have made valuable contributions that significantly raise the quality of teaching and the creation of new knowledge and scientifically based concepts and their use in teaching.
“Medal of Merit for Science and Technology”
Ana Olga Machatine de Almeida Hausse Mocumbi;
Eduardo Samo Gudo Júnior; and
Venâncio Simão Massingue, posthumously.
The three are distinguished by extraordinary merits for scientific and technological innovations that have had a major impact on socioeconomic development.
“Medal of Agricultural and Livestock Merit”
António Manuel Antune
In recognition of extraordinary merits shown in livestock production and productivity.
“Medal of Merit for Combating Poverty”
Bank of Mozambique;
Manuel José João;
Pedro Zacarias Chaúque;
Rogério da Luz de Jesus Gomes; and
Timóteo Valente Fuel, posthumously.
All in recognition of the extraordinary merits shown in promoting rapid, sustainable and comprehensive economic growth, in creating an environment favourable to investment and the development of national business.
“Medal of Merit for Arts and Letters”

Ghorwane SCRL – Music Cooperative;
Joaquina Silia; Matias Ntundo;
Mutumbela Gogo; and
Victor Vieira Raposo.
In recognition of active and relevant participation in Mozambican artistic and cultural life.
“Medal of Sports Merit”

The distinction by the Head of State of national citizens and legal entities is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
Chapo delegated powers to the Secretary of State for the city of Maputo and to Secretaries of State of all Mozambican provinces, to bestow the insignia of these Honorary Titles and Decorations on Wednesday, June 25.
