Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Wednesday made an official visit to the Kingdom of Zitambira, located in the district of Angonia, in the central province of Tete, where he was received by King Zitambira V, and members of the local community.
According to a note from Chapo’s office, the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the links between the Mozambican state and the traditional authorities.
“The traditional leadership is a living patrimony of our people, the guardian of cultural values and fundamental agents in the development of the communities”, said Chapo. A note from his office stressed the role of the community leader as pillars of national unity.
The presidential note described the Kingdom of Zintambira as one of the representations in Mozambique of the Nguni ethnic group. The Ngunis are scattered across several southern African states, including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Malawi.
In his meeting with the king, Chapo reiterated his government’s commitment to work closely with all the local leaderships, strengthening their participation in the implementation of public policies, particularly in the rural areas.
“It is with the traditional leaderships that we should build solutions rooted in the reality of our communities”, stressed Chapo.
The President paid tribute to Queen Zitambira IV, who died in late 2024, and laid wreaths on the graves of three deceased Nguni kings.
Chapo presented his condolences to the royal family, praising the late queen as “a woman of great vision, social sensitivity, and unshakeable commitment to justice and tradition”.
“Queen Zitambira leaves a legacy of dignity, peace and wise leadership that will inspire future generations”, he claimed.
At a rally, Chapo thanked the king and his subjects for the support they had given to him and the ruling Frelimo Party during last year’s general elections.
“Last year, we came to Angonia and we were well received by the Queen, who crowned us during the rally”. he recalled, “and she guaranteed that in Angonia we would have a victory of Frelimo and its presidential candidate”.
“As a government, we shall always work with the Nguni tribe”, he promised.
