Mozambique has improved its labour mediation and arbitration capabilities by training 40 technicians from the Labour Mediation and Arbitration Commission (COMAL). Mozambique has strengthened its capacity for labour mediation and arbitration through the training of 40 technicians from the Labour Mediation and Arbitration Commission (COMAL). This initiative aims to reinforce nationwide mechanisms for extrajudicial resolution of workplace disputes.

The announcement was recently made by COMAL President Olga Manjate at the closing ceremony of the third edition of the training course, which involved participants from the provinces of Inhambane, Tete, and Cabo Delgado.

Manjate emphasized that the training will enhance the quality of COMAL’s interventions, foster social dialogue, and enable faster, more effective dispute resolutions. With labour arbitration now institutionalized across several provinces, the cohort brings the total number of certified arbitrators to 40. Their rulings are legally binding for involved parties and contribute significantly to stabilizing labour relations and reducing court caseloads.

The Labour Mediation and Arbitration Commission (COMAL) plays a crucial role in resolving workplace disputes in Mozambique. Established to facilitate extrajudicial resolutions, COMAL has been instrumental in promoting social dialogue and improving labour relations across the country.
