Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Coral Sul liquefied natural gas floating platform (FLNG), anchored off the coast of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, last week reached the landmark of the 100th shipment of LNG.
Operated by the Italian energy company ENI, the floating platform has been exporting around one shipment of LNG per week since November 2022.
According to a statement from Mozambique’s National Petroleum Institute (INP), with the 100th shipment, that took place last Friday, the FLNG has achieved one of its key operational objectives, which is to produce liquefied gas, with optimum levels of safety, providing a reliable and clean energy alternative to the world.
According to INP Chairperson Nazario Bangalane, the success of the Coral Sul FLNG is expressed not only in the delivery of regular shipments of LNG to Asian markets, but also in the effective participation of Mozambicans in the value chain of this mega-project, contributing in a concrete way to a secure energy transition, that is economically balanced and inclusive for Mozambique and for the world in general.
“Furthermore, this landmark bears witness to the quality of Mozambican gas, and the energy potential to meet the needs of a world that is thirsty for clean energy”, declared Bangalane.
The Coral Sul FLNG is operated by Eni, representing Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a consortium which also includes ExxonMobil and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and which holds 70 per cent of the shares. The other 30% are held equally by Mozambique’s own National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), Galp of Portugal and Kogas of South Korea.
