Covid-19: Mozambique to buy 11 oxygen generation systems – minister

Africa-PressMozambique. The government is going ahead with buying 11 new oxygen generation systems for patients with Covid-19. They will be installed in four central and seven provincial hospitals in Mozambique, Health Minister Armindo Tiago announced this Friday.

“We have enough oxygen to meet needs, but we are already acquiring oxygen systems for all central and provincial hospitals,” Armindo Tiago told journalists.

Minister Tiago explained that the devices will produce oxygen both for the hospital units where they are installed and for other health units, too.

The health minister also announced that 2.5 million of the 11 million Covid vaccines that Mozambique has recently acquired are expected to arrive in the country next week.

Mozambique is in the middle of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and had, by Thursday, registered a cumulative total of 1,221 deaths from 105,866 cases, of which 76% are accounted recovered, and 487 are hospitalised.

The country currently has 23,868 active cases of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
