Covid-19: Vaccination campaign for adolescents to start on 27 September in Mozambique

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The fourth phase of mass vaccination for Covid-19, for teenagers aged 12 to 17 years in Mozambique, is due to start on 27 September confirms the Health Ministry on its website.

The Ministry urges parents and guardians to encourage those eligible under their care to be vaccinated to prevent serious forms of Covid-19, as well as to cut down the number of hospitalisations and deaths due to the pandemic.

Health authorities assure that all the Covid-19 vaccines currently, in use in the country, are safe and have undergone a thorough evaluation and only after being tested they were approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since March 2021, when the vaccination campaign started in Mozambique, a total of 15,435,472 people have been immunized in the country.

As of today (12) 14,692,062 people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The national immunisation coverage now stands at 96.6 per cent

Mozambique received last week 1,333,800 doses of Pfizer’s Covid-19 Vaccine, valued at 36.5 million US dollars, from the COVAX Initiative, to be used for immunization of the target group.

These are the first two batches of a total of 4,899,960 doses that are expected to arrive in the country by this Tuesday (13), funded by the United States government.
