Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Minister of National Defence, Cristóvão Artur Chume, participated this Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in the XXII Meeting of Ministers of Defence or equivalent of all the nine member states of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) in Luanda, Republic of Angola.
The purpose of the meeting was to assess the evolution of the Defence Sector in CPLP Member States, to analyse international issues and the political-military implications in the regional context, to assess and analyse documents related to the Defence component, as well as to monitor the development of the Feline Exercises (Exercícios Felinos – Joint and Combined Military Exercises developed within the framework of technical-military cooperation).
The Feline Exercises have the purpose of allowing the interoperability of the Armed Forces of the Member States of the CPLP and the training for their employment in peace operations and humanitarian assistance, under the aegis of the United Nations Organization, while respecting national legislations.
The ministerial meeting also analysed the Final Declaration of the 24th Meeting of Chiefs of Staff of the CPLP Armed Forces, held on April 27 and 28, 2023, in São Tomé and Príncipe.
In addition to participating in the XXII Meeting of Ministers of Defence or equivalent of the CPLP, Minister Cristóvão Chume visited the Escola Superior de Guerra, an Angolan military education establishment whose mission is to prepare General and Senior Officers for the performance of Command and Directorate functions or others that are incumbent on them at the highest level of the Defence and Security structure of this country.
Cristóvão Chume was accompanied on his working visit to Luanda by staff from the Ministry of National Defence.
The CPLP includes Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.
