Crocodile attacks a growing concern in Vanduzi

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Government authorities in Vanduzi, Manica province, are concerned at the number of crocodile attacks registered in the district’s three rivers during the current rainy season.

These are the Púngoè, Vandúzi and Revuè rivers, which are heavily populated with crocodiles. When river flows increase, the reptiles find a favourable environment to multiply and circulate more.

Last Sunday, Vanduzi saw the burial of two members of the same family, a mother and her four-month-old baby girl, who died in yet another attack.

Vanduzi district administrator João Pedro Amado said that the incidence of attacks had increased with the arrival of the rainy season, and acknowledged that it was difficult for his executive to address the problem in any meaningful way.
