Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican Minister of State Administration, Inocêncio Impissa, has called for commitment to the digitalisation of the public administration because “this is one of the main strategies for reducing corruption and improving the efficiency of public services.”

According to Impissa, who was speaking on Thursday at the opening of the a meeting of the Coordinating Council of his Ministry, which is taking place in the southern municipality of Matola, digitalization aims to make services more accessible, faster, safer, and less vulnerable to corruption.

“We must accelerate the digitalization of public administration services, which will reduce high management costs and prevent corrupt practices. In addition to preventing corruption, investing in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is essential to building a public administration based on meritocracy and professionalism, responding to citizens’ demands for higher-quality, timely public services”, he said.

The minister revealed that an online solution for payment for services is also being developed, aiming to eliminate direct contact between citizens and service providers “and thus reducing the risk of corruption.”

He linked the initiative to the need to provide quality public services, reiterating that it should be seen as an imperative by public servants, especially those in management, leadership, or other responsibilities within the government.

“This is an important step we are taking towards the digitalization of procedures, which we must continue in the joint efforts for the digital transformation that Mozambique has decided to embrace”, he said.

The meeting, which runs for three days, will also serve to assess the first steps of the new governance cycle, and discuss strategic instruments for modernizing the public administration in Mozambique.
