Africa-Press – Mozambique. Last Thursday, the Women Recognition Award event took place in Maputo, an initiative by the SPROWT Foundation aimed at honoring pioneering women or those who stand out in their fields of expertise.

The Pioneer Leadership Network for Women in Africa celebrated Mozambican Women’s Day, acknowledging women’s contributions to the development of Mozambican society, aligned with the purpose, vision, mission, and values of the SPROWT Foundation, as well as its strategic axes/focus areas (education, development, knowledge, science, and culture).

According to the press release, various personalities attended the event, including the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Esperança Bias, and the Secretary of State for the City of Maputo, Vicente Joaquim.

“One of the highlights of the ceremony was the announcement of the Human Rights award posthumously to Dr. Alice Mabota. Emotion and applause filled the venue as all present paid tribute to the legacy left by the figure considered a pioneer in human rights activism in Mozambique,” the press release reads.

The awards were the result of hard work by an independent Award committee composed of members of civil society, diplomatic circles, and the business community, aligned with the vision, mission, and values of the SPROWT Foundation – namely, Anabela Andrianopoulos, who chaired the committee, Jorge Ferrão, Lina Aiuba, and Maryse Bounda.

The 14 awardees are women who demonstrate leadership, strength, courage, capability, creativity, and exceptional commitment to women’s progress in society through motivation, inspiration, and sustained development in the fields of economics, health, social issues, gender, human rights, politics, business, education, science, technology, culture, sports, and media.
