Africa-Press – Mozambique. Ten Ethiopians are being held by the Provincial Migration Service in the city of Lichinga, Niassa province, for entering national territory illegally, and three Mozambicans have been arrested for facilitating their entry, police authorities announced Tuesday.

The group was intercepted over the weekend in the district of Mecanhelas, travelling in a goods vehicle, and found to be without identification documents, said Niassa police spokesman Mirza Maguandain, quoted by Radio Mozambique.

The immigrants were covered “by a tarp” as if the vehicle was transporting goods, Maguandain said, adding that the illegal immigrants “will be presented to the immigration authorities for subsequent procedures”.

Maguanda said three Mozambican men were arrested for facilitating the entry of immigrants into national territory.

One of the Ethiopian citizens told TVM that the group’s final destination was South Africa.

Immigration authorities in Niassa regularly coordinate efforts with their counterparts from Malawi and Tanzania to curb illegal immigration.
